The Prepper class had so much fun learning all about birds during the first week of May. We learned about the different characteristics of birds, their habitats, and what they eat. The friends loved looking at pictures of different types of birds, and thought it was so neat that birds can fly because they have hollow bones. We also learned that birds have different types of beaks, legs, feet, and feathers depending on where they live and what they eat. The children all loved making their “splat the bird” art projects, and going bird watching on our playground. Our next unit was all about Mother’s Day. The children all worked so hard, and did an amazing job on their beautiful flower pots for their mommies. We talked about our favorite things to do with our moms and all the nice things they do for us.

After learning about protecting our Earth, we moved on to our unit on pond life. We had lots of fun learning about the life cycle of frogs, and are very excited to welcome two new froggy friends to our classroom. The friends were given the assignment to think of names for our new frogs over the weekend, and we can’t wait to see what everyone came up with!

The Prepper class had so much fun celebrating Easter! We loved making lots of adorable Easter crafts, and had a blast during our Easter egg hunt and classroom party. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who took the time to help. Last week, we really enjoyed our unit on flowers and gardening. We learned all about the life cycle of plants and flowers, as well as pollination, germination, and photosynthesis. The kids were asked to construct a flower from the soil up to the petals on the felt board, and they all did and amazing job. At the end of the week, we had fun planting our very own flowers. Each student is responsible for caring for his or her own flower every day. We are having a great time watching them sprout and grow!

We had a blast studying one of our favorite units of the year; children’s literature! The Preppers were in charge of the literature section of our lesson plan for the week, and they all did a great job. Everyone loved bringing in their favorite books to share with their friends at school.  We discussed why reading is fun and important, retold our favorite books from memory, and wrote a story all about ourselves. We also learned about the library, and how much fun it is to learn to read. Our friends were all very eager to read all by themselves, and were very excited to realize that they are learning to read every day at school!

Our next unit was on spring weather. We had so much fun going on a spring scavenger hunt on our playground, learning all about the seasons, and spending as much time as possible outside in the beautiful weather. We also loved painting lovely watercolor flowers in our courtyard.

We would also like to wish a big “Happy Birthday” to two very special friends! Thank you so much for sharing your special day with us!

During our unit on St. Patrick’s Day, we learned about the real St. Patrick, all about Ireland, and had a few visits from Lenny the Leprechaun. Lenny loved to play lots of silly tricks on our friends throughout the week. We also had a great time going on a shamrock hunt, and finding Lenny’s treasure!

Music is in the air! This past week, the Prepper class had a blast exploring the wonderful world of music. We took a feild trip to the big music class and played lots of really cool instruments. Ms. Sara brought her violin and trumbone to class and played them for us. We also had a few friends bring instruments from home to share with us. We learned about tempo and beat, as well as fast and slow and loud and soft sounds. Our friends loved visiting some great musical websites in the computer lab, and playing in a marching band on the playground. We also experimented with listening to different types of music while playing in our classroom, and using descriptive words to describe how different kinds of music made us feel.

Love is in the air! The Prepper class had a lot of fun talking about Valentine’s Day this past week. We discussed different ways that we all can show someone that we love them.  We decided that being kind to others, being respectful of our teachers and parents, giving lots of hugs, and always using gentle words are all great ways to show that you care. We also had a great time making special surprise Valentine’s for all those special someone’s in our lives.
